Not too Chablis a week"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sunday 04 September &#8211; Not too Chablis a week<\/h1>\n\n\n<p>You may remember that we were very disappointed with the August weather last year as, while supposed to be the height of summer, it was a very damp and blustery month when we felt we were constantly apologising to our guests.\u00a0 Thankfully this year\u2019s August ended much as it has been throughout with bright sunshine and hot temperatures.<\/p>\n<p>The week began as <a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-28-august-another-week-another-wall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the last<\/a> ended with me trying to complete the rear foundation of the garage and over the course of 2 days I managed to inch forward another 8 metres or so but still not to the end when I decided to take a break as I was at risk of RSI and tendon damage in my hand with constantly smashing the spade into the rock hard soil.\u00a0 I will pick up again early next week as yesterday I invested in another couple of tools \u2013 a proper pick axe \/ trenching tool and a new spade where the blade doesn\u2019t bend!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Garage-foundation-ditch.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1882 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Garage-foundation-ditch-223x300.jpg\" alt=\"Garage foundation ditch\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 223px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 223\/300;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>So on Wednesday, I thought I would take advantage of the great weather and start to prepare the rear windows of Kergudon and Granary\u2019s front door for painting.\u00a0 I painted the rear door of Kergudon in Breton blue <a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-07-august-cats-back\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a couple of weeks ago<\/a> and we will eventually make most of the exterior woodwork the same colour.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately this task was a classic case of starting what I hoped would be a relatively quick and simple job but which became much greater in scope and time.\u00a0 I started by cleaning the outside of the upstairs windows of Kergudon which, much like every other aspect of our own house, haven\u2019t received quite the attention that the g\u00eete windows had in the previous 18 months!\u00a0 While I was doing this I saw that one of the windows needed quite a lot of filling as, while the glass wasn\u2019t loose or at risk of falling out, there were large gaps between the glass and the window frame.\u00a0 Knowing that I would need to mix some filler I thought I would see what was needed on Granary\u2019s front door so that I could do it all together.\u00a0 That\u2019s when the job increased in scope!!<\/p>\n<p>I knew that some filling would be required as the door had not been painted for a number of years (and we had not managed to do so last year) the wood had started to get soft at the base.\u00a0 However, when I started to sand and scrape it became clear just how soft it was \u2013 thoroughly rotten in places and I am surprised that it hadn\u2019t become a bigger problem sooner.<\/p>\n<p>The 1 day \u2018quick\u2019 job suddenly needed me to cut out and replace all of the rotten wood before I could sand, prime and paint. \u00a0I managed to prepare the base of the door for the new wood, which I have cut and primed in preparation, but have not managed to fit yet \u2013 one for early next week.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Granary-Door-Sill.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1883 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Granary-Door-Sill-300x161.jpg\" alt=\"Granary Door Sill\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/161;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The end of the week was less productive although on Thursday we made good on our pledge to take a day to \u2018research\u2019 some local areas.\u00a0 Thursday is sort of our Saturday as David doesn\u2019t work in the gym and it helped that the weather was still very good.<\/p>\n<p>We chose to visit one of the towns on the Crozon peninsular that we hadn\u2019t been to previously although a number of guests had and all said that it was a pretty little port \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.camaret-sur-mer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Camaret-sur-Mer<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Tour-Vauban-Camaret.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1889 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Tour-Vauban-Camaret-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Tour Vauban Camaret\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/225;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Camaret\u00a0is a pretty little seaside town and large working fishing and leisure port with a large number of restaurants and bars to relax in.\u00a0 Having wandered along Le Sillon, the natural breakwater forming the harbour, we ate moules frites overlooking the boats in the bright sunshine.<\/p>\n<p>After lunch we took the dogs for a short walk to the Pointe du Toulinguet and found a fantastic beach at Pen Hat.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Pointe-du-Toulinguet.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1886 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Pointe-du-Toulinguet-234x300.jpg\" alt=\"Pointe du Toulinguet\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 234px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/68;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Some recent guests had recommended a beach in the area which consistently had had lots of waves and therefore was popular with surfers and we think this was it.\u00a0 Along the coast, as in so much of this part of the world, there are a large number of defences and fortifications dating from the Napoleonic times many of which had been modernised in WWII.\u00a0 One of these near Pen Hat is the museum and memorial to the world\u2019s Merchant Navies and specifically the Battle of the Atlantic.\u00a0 Somewhere to visit in the future.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Battle-of-the-Atlantic-Museum.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1880 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/09\/Battle-of-the-Atlantic-Museum-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Battle of the Atlantic Museum\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/225;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Friday, Saturday and today have been fairly \u2018bitty\u2019 with lots of little things progressed (including my first run to the decheterie to clear more rubbish out of Dave\u2019s gym and another trailer load ready to go tomorrow morning), indeed today has been wet outside \u2013 the first time for a while so much needed in the garden and may make digging the rest of the foundation trench a little easier.<\/p>\n<p>We have continued to welcome some lovely clients, and have received some excellent reviews on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tripadvisor.com\/ShowUserReviews-g1201008-d653233-r413396098-Kergudon_Gites_et_Chambres_d_Hotes-Sizun_Finistere_Brittany.html#CHECK_RATES_CONT\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trip Advisor<\/a> recently and the dogs have had lots of children and other dogs to play with \u2013 indeed Garratt has now become such an \u2018outside\u2019 dog that he has got into the habit of complaining when we don\u2019t let him out \u2013 a behaviour that we hope won\u2019t last too long!<\/p>\n<p>We must be getting something right as one couple who arrived on Tuesday having booked for 4 nights, asked if they could stay for a 5<sup>th<\/sup> on their first morning.<\/p>\n<p>Lots more tasks to progress and complete next week \u2013 including the hedges needing another cut (again!!) and finish the Granary door as we have guests arriving on Saturday which is also the day of this year\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.commana.fr\/fr\/evenement\/138440\/foire-ancienne\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Foire \u00e0 l&#8217;ancienne<\/a> at Commana sadly we\u2019re still not in a position to purchase \u2013 perhaps next year \u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u00c0 bient\u00f4t.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sunday 04 September &#8211;
