{"id":1397,"date":"2017-04-09T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2017-04-09T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/https-www-kergudon-com-sunday-9th-april-scorchio\/"},"modified":"2020-05-12T15:54:59","modified_gmt":"2020-05-12T15:54:59","slug":"sunday-9th-april-scorchio","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-9th-april-scorchio\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunday 9th April &#8211; Scorchio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-2nd-april-moregate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Last week\u2019s blog<\/a> said that our builder had unfortunately damaged his back so we weren\u2019t able to progress Grange but it did allow us to focus on a number of other projects that had been waiting and all of these were able to be outside as the weather has been so fantastic \u2013 28 degrees in the shade today!<\/p>\n<p>One of the outstanding tasks was to erect a sign at the end of Hent Gorreker as we know that we are a little tucked away and not always easy to find on SatNav.\u00a0 While we do send directions to all of our guests they are not always used and we get the occasional call from people whose GPS has taken them somewhere into the middle of the French countryside!<\/p>\n<p>You may recall that we had changed the sign at the front of Kergudon a couple of weeks ago and we had made a second although without a roof or lighting (as yet) which we had been given permission from the mayor to put up.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Hent-Gorreker-Sign.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2292 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Hent-Gorreker-Sign-300x266.jpg\" alt=\"Kergudon sign at the entrance to Hent Gorreker\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/266;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I did manage to plant my lonicera cuttings in the new wall at the rear entrance, as well as others in various places around the perimeter. Because the weather has been so warm and dry we decided to put the hose on the new turf and bed overnight yesterday.\u00a0 While this will help the new plants root, it has also hastened the soil settle in the new bed which has now sunk about 30 centimetres \u2013 oops!\u00a0 Might need some topping up.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the other jobs we have done don\u2019t make such great photos but are essential \u2013 painting the hanging basket wall brackets, re-clearing a flower bed to the rear of Dairy, and of course more mowing.\u00a0 Unfortunately we haven\u2019t yet managed to find a solution to the apple roots as it was too large for our neighbour\u2019s tractor.\u00a0 We need to find a plan C as we remain stumped.<\/p>\n<p>However, as the weather has been so perfect we awarded ourselves with a day off yesterday and decided to head south to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brittanytourism.com\/discover-our-destinations\/quimper-cornouaille\/unmissable-sites\/pointe-de-la-torche\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Pointe de la Torche<\/a> which is famous for producing flower bulbs that make amazing displays at this time of year.\u00a0 The climate and sandy soil are ideal for growing tulips, hyacinths and iris making it one of the largest producers of bulbs after the Netherlands.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Tulip-Fields-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2296 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/Tulip-Fields-2-300x162.jpg\" alt=\"Fields of Tulips at the Point de la Torche, Brittany\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/219;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both boys love swimming at every opportunity and we thought that it may do Brandon a bit of good as he has been in the wars recently.\u00a0 In some very playful fighting with Garratt he managed to slam himself against a wall and he has been walking with a bit of a limp for a couple of days.\u00a0 He has also managed to cut a pad on one of his rear paws which was healing really well until he decided to chew it and make it much worse!\u00a0 Taking a limping dog with a bandaged foot to the beach made us look like model dog owners but we thought the salt water would help his wound.\u00a0 Thankfully both are slowly healing.<\/p>\n<p>Both love running in the sea despite the pic on the right &#8211;
