Who needs Monaco?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-14th-may-slate-surge-of-activity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Last week\u2019s blog<\/a> said that the forecast was for more \u2018Breton\u2019 weather which turned out to be, surprisingly, accurate!\u00a0 This was unfortunate, not just for progress on Grange, but also for David\u2019s uncle and aunt who had come to visit us for the week.<\/p>\n<p>We started off making some, slow, progress installing the first of 6 roof windows on the Grange, this one to the rear, whose installation, flashing and slating around took the best part of 2 days.\u00a0 I am hoping that the next 5 can be done much faster although we do have to wait for another 10 days for all the remaining items which we require to be delivered to the shop we have bought them from.\u00a0 The first looks great \u2013 and will certainly help lighten the rooms above the garage \u2013 and, having completed that area of slating, will allow us to start attaching the guttering which was delivered last Friday.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Roof-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2381 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Roof-2-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Installed a roof window at the rear of Grange at Kergudon Gites in Brittany\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/224;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The remainder of the week has been wetter and more unsettled preventing any further significant progress on Grange.\u00a0 I did manage to do a number of smaller, but still useful, tasks but more importantly it allowed us to enjoy spending time with David\u2019s uncle and aunt and visiting some new restaurants, all in the name of research of course!<\/p>\n<p>We are always keen to visit new restaurants in our area as, while our g\u00eetes have everything required for the perfect self-catering holiday, it is always good to have a number of options for a night off cooking including Dave\u2019s amazing catering which is always well received as it was by our guests last night who had cycled from Roscoff.<\/p>\n<p>As our closest restaurant we returned to the Auberge du Menez in Saint Rivoal which continues to develop and impress as the new owners settle in \u2013 even to the point that, unusually for many small French businesses, they have set up a website.<\/p>\n<p>We also visited a couple of new restaurants to us which have been recommended.\u00a0 One, the Caf\u00e9 du Port in Dourduff, to the north of Morlaix, was an excellent lunch spot specialising in fish as you would expect with its location overlooking the Baie du Morlaix (sadly no website \u2013 see my comment above!)\u00a0 For one dinner we visited <a href=\"http:\/\/www.le-viaduc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Le Viaduc<\/a> in Morlaix \u2013 another location worth an outing.<\/p>\n<p>We have also had a couple of \u2018cultural\u2019 activities this week.\u00a0 Last night the Maison Cornec, also in Saint Rivoal, participated in the Europe-wide \u2018night at the museum\u2019 programme.\u00a0 We have (still) not visited the museum during its normal hours although it is based around a restored building of a similar age and design to our Priory and recreates life in a small-holding at the time of its construction.\u00a0 For the night at the museum, they opened their doors for singing and story-telling around the fire.\u00a0 Thankfully, there were professionals and willing volunteers to do both the singing and story-telling so we didn\u2019t have to participate other than to enjoy the experience.\u00a0 Sadly, a little too smoky and dark for any photos.<\/p>\n<p>However, today\u2019s cultural activity was in bright sunlight and gave lots of opportunities for pictures \u2013 the Grand Prix de l\u2019Arc de Triomphe Sizun.\u00a0 While a biennial event, we didn\u2019t attend in 2015 but will certainly be doing so for all future occasions.\u00a0 It was a great spectacle to see some fantastic old cars race around a circuit on the streets of Sizun \u2013 a real petrolhead\u2019s dream!\u00a0 Hopefully, with our new garage, we can attract some participants, or at least classic car owners and enthusiasts, to come and stay with us in 2019 (and hopefully before that!)<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Sizun Grand Prix de L&#039;Arc de Triomphe.\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SWR5hWVFZyU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
