Glastonbury, Ibiza or Saint Cadou?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-21-may-who-needs-monaco\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Last week\u2019s blog<\/a> ended with the Sizun Grand Prix as one of the amazing activities that we have near us.\u00a0 This week ends with another \u2013 Assomniak\u2019s \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/events\/782013658643825\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">F\u00eate du Bourg<\/a>\u2019 in the heart of Saint Cadou.\u00a0 More of that later.<\/p>\n<p>Generally this week has been a contrast with last week as we returned to amazingly hot weather \u2013 too hot at times \u2013 which was enjoyed by our guests but makes us think we need to apologise to David\u2019s uncle and aunt who stayed with us last week!\u00a0 They don\u2019t always see Brittany in the heat!<\/p>\n<p>The settled weather did allow us to make some good progress on Grange and we are starting to feel that perhaps the light at the end of the tunnel has at least been ignited!\u00a0 Having installed the first roof window last week we were able to attach the first run of guttering and dismantle the scaffolding on one quarter of the building.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Grange-guttered-at-the-rear.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2394 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Grange-guttered-at-the-rear-179x300.jpg\" alt=\"First run of guttering erected at the rear of Grange at Kergudon Gites in Brittany\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 179px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 179\/300;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We have been told that the remaining windows and flashings were delivered to the shop on Saturday so we will be able to collect early next week and make great strides in completing the roof totally.<\/p>\n<p>The remainder of the week was spent rendering the block walls \u2013 a job that I left entirely to our builder while I focussed on mixing the mortar.\u00a0 Rendering does seem to take an awfully long time \u2013 mostly the smoothing off and making good \u2013 but it certainly makes a huge difference to the aesthetics as the building starts to look a little more finished helped as I managed to make a start to the exterior cladding.\u00a0 One garage bay is now practically complete internally \u2013 the interior walls are likely to be a way off!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/North-end-of-Grange-rendered.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-2396 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/North-end-of-Grange-rendered-300x222.jpg\" alt=\"Rendering on the north end of Grange at Kergudon Gites in Brittany\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/201;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We stopped work on Grange on Thursday so that I could assist the Assomniak team prepare for the festival as I always feel guilty attending these types of event but not having assisted with the set up before.\u00a0 The plans were very ambitious as they had 5 separate concert venues in the centre of the village, 3 of which needed stages and \/ or tenting erected as well as kilometres of electrical cabling and lighting to erect with other stalls and stands.\u00a0 I was principally focussed on marquees outside our Salle de F\u00eate and, most important of all, building the bar!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Church-Stage.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2391 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Church-Stage-300x192.jpg\" alt=\"Church stage at the Fete du Bourg in Saint Cadou, Brittany\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/192;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As well as assisting with the set up I had volunteered to be staff for a couple of sessions during the event and to help out where my French language skills would be best used \u2013 directing traffic in the car parks!<\/p>\n<p>Saturday was a lovely day and saw lots of people converge on the village and enjoy the music and sunshine.\u00a0 As with most of the Fest Noz events lots of people were camping either in their cars and vans or at a specially set-up camp site in the centre which sounded great fun and allowed them to enjoy the festival until the arranged music stopped at 3 am \u2013 right up to the thunder storms and torrential downpours that inevitably come at the end of a period of hot weather.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly the wetter weather appeared to have an impact on numbers attending the event today and there were very few cars which arrived during my car park patrol time today \u2013 but none got stuck in the mud on their way out in my car park at least!<\/p>\n<p>I had a look around the festival yesterday afternoon (one advantage of volunteering was free entry) and David and I went together to the evening activities.\u00a0 The music was very different to that which we are used to at the other Fest Noz being less Breton traditional and a much wider mix of rock, acoustic and, at times, more Ibiza house DJs!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Ibiza-DJing.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-2395 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Ibiza-DJing-300x186.jpg\" alt=\"DJ at the Fete du Bourg in Saint Cadou, May 2017\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px;
