{"id":2735,"date":"2019-03-03T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-03T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/https-www-kergudon-com-sunday-3-march-animal-hospital\/"},"modified":"2020-05-12T15:55:38","modified_gmt":"2020-05-12T15:55:38","slug":"sunday-3-march-animal-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-3-march-animal-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunday 3 March &#8211; Animal Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apologies for no blog last week.&nbsp; As previous years, we took the opportunity of the quiet season here to go back to the UK and walk in the Lake District.&nbsp; While we said 2018 would be our last Lakes visit as we want to explore more of France, this year we were invited to spend the week with Dave\u2019s family as an early event to mark his parent\u2019s 40<sup>th<\/sup> wedding anniversary.<\/p>\n<p>While we were away, Finist\u00e8re, as much of the UK, experienced record temperatures and dry weather for February which would have been perfect for lots of progress in the garden which is springing back to life.&nbsp; The Lake District however, seemed, for the most part to be unaffected by this seasonal anomaly and while it wasn\u2019t wall-to-wall sunshine while we were there it was considerably better than it could have been at that time of year \u2013 with the exception of Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>On the Thursday, due to an improving forecast, we chose to climb and walk some of the Kentmere horseshoe which gets to above 2,700 feet.&nbsp; When at the summit, we were above the cloud base and almost getting blown off the hill!&nbsp; Unfortunately the promised improvement didn\u2019t come until we were off the hill so, despite Wainwright detailing the amazing views we should be able to see, we never saw much more than 100 metres in front of us!<\/p>\n<p>The following day could not have been more different, clear, bright and warm with no wind and we climbed <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Crinkle_Crags\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Crinkle Crags<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Great_Langdale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Great Langdale<\/a> which was amazing.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Crinkle-Crags-e1551629628828.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3911 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Crinkle-Crags-e1551629628828-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"Crinkle Crags\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 225px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 225\/300;\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We got back to Kergudon last Monday with a long list of projects to attack \u2013 not least completing the man shed(!) but, while the fine weather lasted we did a few of the more routine domestic chores and, amazingly cut the grass at the end of February!&nbsp; Probably a first.&nbsp; As we hadn\u2019t managed to cut it since early autumn it was long and thick and so was a 2-man job which took rather longer than usual and filled the trailer with cuttings.&nbsp; It looks so much better although continues to grow rapidly and is probably going to be destroyed by this year\u2019s mole efforts!<\/p>\n<p>One other issue we had to sort was a worrying lump that had grown under Brandon\u2019s jaw.&nbsp; With typically great timing, we first saw the lump the day before travelling to the UK but thought that maybe he had been bitten or stung with one of the buzzy insects waking up in the warm sunshine.&nbsp; As with most things our initial action was to wait and see if it goes away. It didn\u2019t!&nbsp; Brandon didn\u2019t seem bothered by it as he was as hungry and active as always charging up the fells.<\/p>\n<p>On our return we thought it best to get it checked out at the vets \u2013 you can just see it under Brandon\u2019s left jaw.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Brandon-at-the-Vet.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3908 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/Brandon-at-the-Vet-221x300.jpg\" alt=\"Brandon's abscess can just be seen under his chin\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 221px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 221\/300;\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Thankfully they were able to confirm it was nothing more sinister than an abscess which they were able to drain with a minor op.&nbsp; During which they found the cause \u2013 a tiny, no more than 5 mm long, piece of wood that had pierced his skin and become infected.<\/p>\n<p>As a result of the op Brandon has 4 large stitches and must wear the \u2018cone of shame\u2019 until a week tomorrow.&nbsp; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/224;\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally, last night we were spoiled with a dinner at Au Lac, although the restaurant doesn\u2019t open for the season for another few weeks.
