{"id":2794,"date":"2019-04-14T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-04-14T00:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/https-www-kergudon-com-sunday-14-april-and-then-there-was-light\/"},"modified":"2020-05-12T15:55:40","modified_gmt":"2020-05-12T15:55:40","slug":"sunday-14-april-and-then-there-was-light","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-14-april-and-then-there-was-light\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunday 14 April &#8211; And then there was light &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-07-april-springing-into-new-life\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Last week\u2019s blog<\/a> spoke about a weather-affected \u2018bitty\u2019 week of jobs with a lot of weeding having been done.\u00a0 This week has been very similar.<\/p>\n<p>It ended saying that some of the gardening, principally continuing to clear the old chicken run, was dependent on finding a new fork that I liked.\u00a0 I have \u2013 inevitably on a certain website and, sadly, in the UK so I won\u2019t have it for a few weeks.\u00a0 There are many little things where France and the UK differ and even garden implements are one of those areas.\u00a0 I am used to UK tools that have a grip or handle on the end of the shaft.\u00a0 In France, tools just have a long shaft which I don\u2019t find as easy to use or drive into the ground \u2013 perhaps that\u2019s why I have broken so many!<\/p>\n<p>As such, I have had to resurrect an old fork with 3 remaining tines of the original 4 \u2013 it isn\u2019t just handles I break \u2013 and have put in a number of hours continuing to clear the chicken run brambles.\u00a0 The photo doesn\u2019t show much progress, and it is slow work, but I am pleased with what I have managed to achieve and think (hope) that the task will get a little quicker soon.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Chicken-Run.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3982 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Chicken-Run-300x177.jpg\" alt=\"Making slow progress clearing the old chicken run of bramble and weeds\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/177;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I did manage to wire in the gate light on the east side of the rear access \u2013 a task that has been outstanding for a number of months \u2013 and we are really pleased with how the back gate now looks. --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/172;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I have tried to find a picture of how the rear gate looked before we started the work.\u00a0 Other than one of the west side on my blog of <a href=\"https:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-27-november-wir-sind-deutscher\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">27 November 2016<\/a>, which coincidentally was when I broke the tine off the fork I have been using, I can\u2019t find anything to show it in all its horror.\u00a0 Nonetheless, we are really pleased that the back gate is now finished as we had planned, all looks very formal \u2013 we just need to make the front entrance as neat!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Rear-gate-at-night.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-3983 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/04\/Rear-gate-at-night-300x179.jpg\" alt=\"Kergudon's rear access complete with both lights on our walls\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/186;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The rest of the week has again been more bitty jobs which has included re-staining a number of the fence and gates I made a couple of years ago to make sure they still look good and last as long as they can; lots of lawn mowing and, almost a day\u2019s worth of splitting wood into kindling.\u00a0 With all of our building we have amassed a large amount of wood pieces and offcuts which, with that hoarding instinct I have mentioned before, we have hung onto but done nothing with.\u00a0 Now that we are clearing out the garage bays I am going through this large pile and we will have enough kindling for the stoves to last most of next year (hopefully!)<\/p>\n<p>Finally, I thought we would include a few dates that you may be interested in for activities in the village and commune if you\u2019d like to come and see us and take in some Breton culture.<\/p>\n<p>The weekend of 1<sup>st<\/sup> and 2<sup>nd<\/sup> June is the biennial Grand Prix Arc de Triomphe in Sizun.\u00a0 This is a fantastic event where the centre of Sizun becomes a race track for some classic sports car and you can get up close with the action.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"Sizun Grand Prix de L&#039;Arc de Triomphe.\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/SWR5hWVFZyU?start=35&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" class=\"lazyload\" data-load-mode=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The 8<sup>th<\/sup> \u2013 10<sup>th<\/sup> June is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/assomniak\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Assomniak<\/a> Associations 3<sup>rd<\/sup> F\u00eate du Bourg in the centre of Saint Cadou.\u00a0 For the 3<sup>rd<\/sup> year this active association are organising a number of music and cultural events in and around the centre of the village which is always popular.<\/p>\n<p>The weekend of 21 \/ 22 June is France\u2019s annual F\u00eate de la Musique where every town, village and hamlet arrange some sort of musical entertainment which Saint Cadou combine with their annual tantad \/ bonfire for the F\u00eate de St. Jean.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Tantad-2018.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3344 lazyload\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/06\/Tantad-2018-293x300.jpg\" alt=\"Tantad 2018\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 293px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 293\/300;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sunday 30<sup>th<\/sup> June is the annual TriBrezh on the Lac du Drennec which is always a spectacle and good opportunity to have a beer on the terrace of <a href=\"https:\/\/au-lac-du-drennec-restaurant.business.site\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Au Lac<\/a> and watch others exerting themselves.<\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"TriBreizh 2018 - Triathlon dans les Monts d&#039;Arree\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" data-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/uda_gSDnrA0?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
