{"id":4068,"date":"2020-05-10T16:55:18","date_gmt":"2020-05-10T16:55:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kergudon.com\/?p=4068"},"modified":"2020-11-02T15:02:01","modified_gmt":"2020-11-02T15:02:01","slug":"sunday-10-may-end-of-an-era","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-10-may-end-of-an-era\/","title":{"rendered":"Sunday 10 May &#8211; End of an Era"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apologies for not posting a blog last week.&nbsp; Looking back at the preceding week it was another one of those \u2018pottering\u2019 type weeks when you progress a number of little things but no real major milestones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Le <a href=\"https:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-26-april-raking-it-in\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">last blog<\/a> I did write was after we\u2019d scarified the orchard and Granary lawns and I said that we\u2019d hope to do the main lawn behind Priory the following day before some forecast rain arrived.&nbsp; Thankfully we managed to achieve that but it did make a bigger mess than we\u2019d anticipated.&nbsp; The lawn was in a much worse state than we thought so, when scarified there were many areas left very bare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thankfully too however, the predicted rain did arrive, albeit not in the volume promised, so the healing process could begin.&nbsp; Over the last couple of weeks we have had a few periods of rain, including an impressively loud thunderstorm yesterday, which has meant all of the lawns are starting to look more like, well, lawns.&nbsp; And they\u2019re turning green!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thankfully it hasn\u2019t been wet all the time and we did manage to have our first BBQ of the year on Friday night.&nbsp; While there have been many hot, dry days so far in 2020, the only other time we managed to plan a BBQ was a day when the weather changed.&nbsp; We often have weather fronts pass over us but rarely are they so obvious or dramatic as one we had last week.&nbsp; The photo doesn\u2019t really do it justice but there was perfect blue sky and a very clear line of cloud. --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 603\/445;\" data-original-sizes=\"(max-width: 603px) 100vw, 603px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>You may recall that a <a href=\"https:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-19th-april-four-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">few weeks ago<\/a> we said we had ordered some hedging plants having cut down the sycamores on our west boundary.&nbsp; As we have been promised some soil from friends nearby we haven\u2019t been able to plant them here but I have done 80% of the area we wanted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the periods of wet weather I spent some time back in Priory doing more filling and sanding \u2013 you\u2019d have thought the walls would be beautifully smooth now \u2013 and also some boxing and making good where the electrician had to cut holes in the lambris to install new cabling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest change I made was to grout the tiling we have put up in the bathrooms and cloakroom.&nbsp; But we have decided on a more contemporary colour for the walls when we get around to the final coats. We\u2019ll show you when done. We have decided not to do any of the actual painting until all of the electrics and plumbing has been completed as there is too high a chance of damaging things and having to redo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thankfully, France is starting to come out of confinement from tomorrow so we are hoping we are high priority for Pascal and Lee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new rules allow most businesses to open (not yet Dave\u2019s gym, restaurants or bars) and people can travel within France to a maximum of 100 kms from their homes.&nbsp; We don\u2019t think this will mean we will see many guests immediately as, while the French are good at exploring their own regions and taking breaks relatively close to home, a lot come to Finist\u00e8re for the beaches, and sadly the beaches are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.francebleu.fr\/infos\/societe\/lundi-les-plages-restent-fermees-assure-la-prefete-de-bretagne-michele-kirry-1588930883?utm_medium=Social&amp;utm_source=Facebook&amp;fbclid=IwAR2038CiPPeVVLNYZhWDH4isMLMwWdMAOhfCFLwqadZ4mcBSzQsMAVOEMjo#Echobox=1588931233\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">remaining closed<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also frustratingly, while the d\u00e9chetterie is open from Tuesday, the prefecture have limited your ability to visit based on your car registration.&nbsp; You can visit on days that coincide with the last number on your licence plate \u2013 ours is 7 so we can visit on 7<sup>th<\/sup>, 17<sup>th<\/sup> or 27<sup>th<\/sup> assuming these fall on days the d\u00e9chetterie is open.&nbsp; We have lots of things we need to dump so will have to make many trips on 27<sup>th<\/sup> this month!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At least the hairdresser we use is open next week and we have made an appointment for Friday \u2013 we both desperately need a haircut \u2013 but will need to take our facemasks with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next week \u2013 definitely more progress in Priory.&nbsp; Honest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salut.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Apologies for not posting a blog last week.&nbsp; Looking back at the preceding week it was another one of those \u2018pottering\u2019 type weeks when you progress a number of little things but no real major milestones.
