Spring, Apparently!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Apologies for posting my blog late.\u00a0 At this time of year we always try and make the most of the light evenings and work until quite late \u2013 especially when the weather is dry which sadly hasn\u2019t happened so much in the last week!<\/p>\n<p>This week has been very mixed and weather affected.\u00a0 However, for those who are interested in whether I have started the boot room conversion project \u2026 I actually have (sort of) but haven\u2019t made what could be called significant progress.\u00a0 I have started to clear out the space which has meant that I have had to repair our large BBQ which got damaged in Storm Katie.\u00a0 All functioning now but sadly haven\u2019t been able to put it to use yet!<\/p>\n<p>There will be more progress next week but at the start of this week it looked like this \u2026<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Boot-Room-before-conversion.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1743 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Boot-Room-before-conversion-300x224.jpg\" alt=\"Boot Room before conversion\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/224;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Last Monday was a public holiday in France which meant that there were a lot of activities taking place in and around the region.\u00a0 We chose to visit one of our closest villages, Commana, and watch their cycle race.<\/p>\n<p>As I have mentioned in a <a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/fr\/sunday-31-january-cycling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">previous blog<\/a>, cycling is huge in France and Brittany is no exception.\u00a0 The Commana race used to be a regular Pentecost weekend event although it was not held for a decade before being reinstated last year.\u00a0 This year the event re-used the old 3 km circuit starting and finishing at the village centre which the field of 60 cyclists had to ride 22 times.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/DSC03505.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1744 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/DSC03505-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"DSC03505\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/172;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The event was a good distraction to watch sitting outside the Cr\u00eaperie des Monts D\u2019Arr\u00e9e enjoying a beer!<\/p>\n<p>We collected our car on Tuesday from the Audi garage it having had its first repair.\u00a0 We now need to drive it for 1000 kms to see if it has done the trick.\u00a0 The garage is in Morlaix so we both headed in to the town as we wanted to visit a couple of nurseries we had seen before Dave had to head to the gym to teach his new class.<\/p>\n<p>We bought a wisteria plant at one of the garden centres which we will plant in front of Priory and had lots of ideas for other things although didn\u2019t get everything that we wanted.\u00a0 While the shopping may not have been as successful as we had hoped Dave has evidently had a big impact at New York gym as they have asked him to teach 7 other classes \u2013 starting from June!\u00a0 He is delighted.<\/p>\n<p>The remainder of the week has principally been spent avoiding showers and rain so I got a lot of admin done but very little practical things until Friday when I started a job that I expected me to take a couple of hours!\u00a0 Following our desire, and work, to improve the entrance and make a better \u2018first impression\u2019 I planned to replace a couple of stones which had fallen out of the very old wall that divides the drive from Granary\u2019s garden.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Entrance-Wall.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1746 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/Entrance-Wall-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"Entrance Wall\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 300\/198;\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Over the years the wall had started to bulge and collapse as the amount of roots had increased and animals had pulled the dirt out from between the rocks.\u00a0 Classically, having dug out the space where the stones had fallen, more stones became loose so I thought it best to remove these and replace them leading to more stones falling out or coming loose and needing to be replaced leading to\u00a0 more stones \u2026<\/p>\n<p>A job that I had anticipated would take a few hours became almost 3 days (with other distractions and rain delays) and took the rest of the week but I am pleased with the results (I&#8217;m getting a dab hand at walling!)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/DSC03511.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-1747 lazyload\" data-src=\"http:\/\/kergudon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/DSC03511-300x179.jpg\" alt=\"DSC03511\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 300px;
