Sunday 18th January 2015 – Week 1
Can’t believe that another week has passed although it probably won’t come as any surprise that we haven’t managed to empty ALL of the boxes!
However, we have completed our own bedroom – other than the minor issues of curtains and a new paint job! We now have the ability to listen to music and watch DVDs (not TV as yet) or read from the bookcase we have constructed from a couple of items of unrelated pine furniture – it looks surprisingly good!
While making good progress it is the little successes that give the greatest pleasure like fixing the closure to the woodburner, repairing the light fitting on the landing or successfully managing to arrange delivery of heating oil!
Most importantly we have had a local tradesman visit to look at the plans we have for the gîtes to see what is possible and what it will cost! Our plans are for new kitchens in Granary and Hayloft with new bath or shower rooms in Granary, Hayloft and Stable.
Dave has been busy tweaking the website – let us know what you think and definitely if you see there are any typos – we’ve both read and re-read it but you know how they sneak through …
We have also tried to explore the area a little more and, in one of the lengthy breaks we have enjoyed from the spring like showers, we walked the 7.5 km (4.5 miles) around the beautiful Lac du Drennec. On a calm, clear day there was so much birdlife around and it was evident the lake will be a wonderful place to swim on one of the beaches when a little warmer.
Plans for next week – research trips to Brest to see what kitchens and bathrooms we can find and hopefully we will wield the first paintbrush …
