Sunday 15 March – It’ll be all white on the night

A short one this week and not so many pictures – sorry!

In last week’s blog, I mentioned I had one day of work in the pool house before I could start painting the undercoats and making better progress, and I planned to do that when our guests left us on Tuesday.

Before I could get back in the pool house, and the weather allowed, I did manage to get some gardening done and began something  we hope to, finally, achieve this year, clearing the rear drive.  This is tied in with the clearing out the garage but will allow us, and guests, to drive all the way through the property and minimise manoeuvring on the driveway.

A little like the garage, the back drive has been a useful space to ‘store’ things and this has included the crates the pool house roof slates were delivered in and the frame that came with the pool shelter when it was erected.  It’s all good firewood when broken up!

Neither of these tasks make for great photos, and clearing the drive will take a few more weeks yet, but what makes a BIG visual difference is what I have managed to achieve having got back in the pool house.

The final prep day required was more filling and caulking in and around the skirting we have included to remove any gaps for when we paint, which began on Thursday.

Being a large space it took a full day to apply each coat of sous couche (under coat) the second giving a more opaque finish but making it easier to visualise what it will finally look like.

As we’ve mentioned, because paint is so much cheaper to buy in the UK than here in France, especially specialist bathroom paint that we have decided to use as it is technically a ‘wet’ space, we are kindly having some brought out to us by David’s Dad when he next visits after Easter.  My intention is therefore to get everything as ready as I can so, as soon as we have the paint, finishing the whole project (inside) should be relatively swift.

We are quiet next week with no guests so I should be able to complete the next big leap forward, possibly the last before David’s Dad arrived, it is therefore encouraging that the weather is looking like it may be the first fabulous week of spring so I should be able to give the garden some desperately needed TLC too.

Whatever I achieve, I will certainly write again next Sunday with an update.

Kenavo.
